It’s all about people
Back in our Firewood days we believed that good people are good business. That one sentence was the north star of our hiring process. It was a simple, practical guardrail that stopped us settling for second best. Yeah, it takes longer but think of it as an early investment in your business’s long term success.
Right now, we’re at a pretty exciting time in Curious Orange. Two newbies have recently joined the fold (welcome welcome welcome) and we’re optimistic that there are more to come sooner rather than later. That’s got us reflecting on something we discussed in depth earlier this year when we kicked off – the simple truth that an agency is only as good as the people involved. But how do you define “good” I hear you say?
It’s actually pretty hard and that’s why we put together a “manifesto for good” in the early days of Curious Orange. This was to help us articulate the qualities we admire and require in colleagues, and also to help potential employees understand our culture of work.
Here’s what we came up with. Good is:
Open minded
When it comes to problem solving, “No” is not in our vocabulary. We get there through collaboration, curiosity and technology – plus the experience of knowing the solution may not come from where you expect it.
Responsive
Don’t leave people hanging. Even if you don’t have an answer straight away, acknowledge the request. Client or colleague – it’s important everyone feels heard.
Adaptable
Experience taught us there are no absolutes when it comes to our work. Keeping in-step with colleagues and clients is at the core of what we do. So if the goal post moves, adjust how you shoot.
Nurturing
Culture is paramount at Curious Orange. Team work, empathy and open communication are vital to sustaining an environment that’s conducive to the best possible work.
Gritty
Get in the weeds, pull every thread and above all – never give up. When you sweat the small stuff the big stuff will take care of itself.
Enthusiastic
Show up positive. Good vibes are contagious and when you’re feeling happy the ideas flow that bit easier.
